And maybe she'll be able to understand it, a little better, when it starts to sink in that Sam's gone. When they go into the pods and go through the next jump and she hears the stories about everyone dies if they're not inside. How she'll have to be forced back in there, fighting, because of the memories it brings back. The associations it brings. Maybe, when they wake up and Dean's looking for his brother, she'll accept it a little easier. Let him check up on her as much as he wants.
Within reason. ]
Little late for that, don't you think? [ Don't start with her now, Dean, because she doesn't regret it. Won't. Rant all you want but it won't change anything.
She frowns a bit at his response, shifting where she's leaning against the wall of the bar. Not sure how she should feel about those texts, about what Dean's probably doing. ]
Doing what?
[ Talk to her. Say something. Even if she knows it's futile. Even if she knows exactly what he's doing, exactly what he'll say. ]
[ dean dreads the jump. quietly, it's something clawing inside of him, and he knows when it comes and goes, if sam isn't there... he's not sure if that'll confirm anything in a certain direction, only that sam isn't safe with him. the unknown in this ship is something dangerous, no matter if it's something they see every day, or whatever lurks beyond the unexplored hallways.
a little late, yeah, but he had to try. ] There better not be a next time. [ let him wish.
he knows she knows what he's doing, knows she's not stupid. which is what he ends up texting her, too. ] You know what.
[ Because they both know it's not gonna happen. He can talk as big as he wants, tell her where to go or to stay or to sit and wait, but when it all comes down to it she goes where she wants and does what she wants. Whether or not Dean's okay with that isn't something that concerns her, especially when it's his neck on the line.
If Ellen Harvelle couldn't get Jo to sit and stay, does he really think he can?
But his affirmation doesn't make her feel any better. Not any worse, sure, because she already doesn't like it, but not any better. Jo starts up an answer in her head at the text, asking maybe where he is, if he wants backup, if he just doesn't want to do this alone, but his second text makes her stop. ]
Don't get yourself killed.
[ Because she went back, saw his post before she showed up. About trying to avoid the pods, the jump. She also knows he gets a little reckless, when it involves Sam (she remembers the possession, Dean getting shot) and with him out in the middle of the ship doing god knows what trying to find his brother? Well...
