What happened? You look like you got hit by a truck.
[God, don't remind him of how lame he was. His eyebrows raise and he rises slowly to his feet, ringing out the rag in the water (which is gross, he needs to get more water, cleaner water). He just nods at the first question, sighs at the second, tries to play it off because really, other than the fact that he's pissed he couldn't stop it? He's used to being turned into a punching bag. Just before arriving here, his whole face was a swollen, ugly canvas from five too many punches.
So the nasty green-purple spot on his jaw, the red pinch at the corner of his lip, the trail of discolored spots where the rifle had nearly smashed him on the throat and chest, the wrapped, aching hand where two of his digits made holding anything in his left a chore — that's all pretty much a given, in Winchester life.
And he probably didn't look so hot when Jo first met him back home, either. What with the accident.

[He grins, finding what little humor he can in being thoroughly out-gunned. The only thing that probably needs medical care is the swollen hand, but he has enough range of motion that he figures the finger bones are just sprained or even a little fractured. He flexes the hand unconsciously, his pain tolerance leaving his face unscathed by the shooting pain up his hand.]
I met the guy in the hallway — [he slowly sits on a nearby stool.] it was weird, because he had the qualities of a spirit; vengeful one, too. Vanished into thin air after he tried knocking my lights out. The lights even flickered, like they could under the presence of a ghost.
[He's thoroughly confused, leaning back, slipping the bandanna off to nestle in his good hand. He sighs.]
I've pulled enough bullets out of you brothers to be concerned, okay?
[ And by enough she means one and that's a whole other can of worms so we'll just. Ignore that fact and keep going. There's really nothing for her to do, once she finally looks him over, but she can be obnoxious and pushy if she wants. When Sam goes to sit down, she walks over to stand next to him, arms crossed over her chest as she listens - her frown deepening a bit. ]
Was he actual flesh? Like, did he bleed? Because if the ghost is vengeful enough he can materialize so much that he feels solid.
[ Oh the good ole days of being molested by serial killer ghosts. ]
[He frowns, thoughtful (and totally ignoring the concern, because that is also how Winchesters roll).]
He reacted to me kicking him in the, uh, junk. [There was no nice way of phrasing that.] Just enough that I noticed, anyway... He didn't seem to react to pain all that well, and he didn't phase around much. Definitely had some damage enough to bleed from whoever attacked him before me.
[A beat. He takes a drink of a glass of water he's clearly been working on finishing during his cleaning spree.]
Apparently, they killed him not long after I ran into him.
[He shakes his head.]
But yeah, I still think he's definitely a spirit. Maybe one from a different home plate than us.
... Wonder if salt or iron would've worked on him...
[ Well there's not much more she can do anyway so she'll just have to be content with him being okay. That is, until she hears about what it is exactly that Sam did to this 'ghost' and her eyebrows shoot up. Just for a moment, before she snorts, and then the snort turns out to a full out laugh. ]

There's more crap here than any of the creepy crawlies back home could even think of. You'll be bored when you get back.
[No, Jo, don't tell him that. He wants at least a few rules to make sense. But just one look at her silences any objections he was about to have about that; he shifts, sits in his chair and extends his hand out prepared for her to punish re-wrap.]
I'm not so sure I'm happy about the hunting bit.

There are splints there, keeping the two injured fingers straight; they're not broken as much as fractured, put under strain from Tate's inhuman strength. Still, the swelling is on its way to lowering, and the bruising is dark and heavy against the pale flesh of his hand.]
